Charitable Donations Receipts

Since the AGM last year the Elders and Executive Pastor have been reviewing our Charitable Donations policy from 2009. Specifically we have been looking into whether funds given to RBC for the support of specific individuals qualify for donations receipts.

We have taken into account guidance from the Baptist Union and IRD, examples from other churches and denominations, and the opinion of an external consultant Max Palmer of Lifeway Resources.

From this advice it is our understanding that where the church chooses to support specific individuals or causes in the furtherance of our mission, then donations given to the church to fund this work would qualify for donations receipts. This fits within our existing policy, so we will leave this unchanged.

Practically, we would suggest that a list of those individuals and external causes the church has chosen to support be updated at least annually, approved at an Elders meeting and advised to the congregation. The decision to support individuals serving in a missions capacity, would be on recommendation of the missions team.

Well done to Jan and the elders!
I know the immense time commitment and copious details that needed to be combed through in the background.
It is really great to have this issue resolved, thank you.

I want to thank you for all the hard work behind the scenes to answer this tricky question, of which there seem to be an increasing number!
